Learning design project: coming soon
Izzy Bird is the (fictional) daring great-great granddaughter of the legendary Victorian explorer Isabella Bird. In the late 19th century, Isabella was a woman doing what was very much considered a man's job, travelling and exploring exciting, remote and often dangerous parts of the world. Her travels took her to Japan, China, North America and Hawaii, among other places, and she wrote extensively about her explorations. Isabella was the first woman elected to the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
Izzy is now ready to follow in Isabella's footsteps and carve her own path in the world of adventure. Although only 12 years old, Izzy has already gained attention for her science projects and has now received an invitation to join the Explorers for Change organisation's summer exploration programme in Edinburgh. As she embarks on this thrilling journey, she quickly bonds with fellow young adventurers, forming a tight-knit team ready for anything. Izzy's first adventure, provisionally titled Izzy Bird and the Goddess of Fire, sees Izzy and her team from Explorers for Change travel to Hawaii, helping investigate the increase in earthquakes and potential volcanic activity from Hualalai volcano near Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. Izzy Bird and the Goddess of Fire will be presented in eBook and audio book formats (published by Refreshing Publishing) and will have associated eLearning materials specifically designed to encourage reluctant readers back into reading for pleasure. The eBook is currently in development. |
